We discussed this a bit in class today but I thought it was a good point. It was brought up that Othello is very easily swayed to follow Iago's hints. Why do you think he is so easily pursuaded by Iago?

Othello is a very weak character. He doesn't think things through and he is impulsive (which is obvious through him marrying Desdemona seemingly out of nowhere). With Iago egging him on, Othello is going to act on his impulses. If Iago's plan hadn't gone so flawlessly, and if Othello had actually sat down and thought things through, the outcome of the play might have been very different.

The reason why Othello is swayed so easily by Iago is that I believe he doesn't truely love Desdemona. Rather he loves her for her station and the prestige that being married to her would bring upon him. Iago knows this and uses it to his advantage to exact revenge on Othello for passing him over in favor of Cassio.

Othello had known Iago far longer than he had Desdemona, so that right there put a higher sense of trust to him. Your supposed to believe your friends first, and i suppose thats what he did.
Also, At that point in time, woman didn't have the status as men, so Othello wouldn't have found the need to talk to her about the issue.

(my computer just messed up and i lost what i typed so im gunna paraphrase)
I pretty much agree with what everyone else has said so far. Othello doesnt really think things through..but maybe he is more trusting of Iago because he's known him longer..

Also i think that Othello just really wants the attention. He said at the beginning that one of the main reasons that he was attracted to Des in the first place was because she was really interested in his stories about being a General. As soon as she became concerned with Cassio he started to become suspicious (with the help of Iago or course)

Othello is a strong, military person but who has a weak point of being easily swayed by others, Iago. Iago has had this mastermind who has skillfully plotted out a revenge against Cassio, involving Othello. Othello believes Iago because Othello thinks that Iago has all the true, insider information. The fact that this insider information is all made up as gone past Othello. When I finished this book, I thought it was really odd and crooked. After watching the movies and having some thoughts about the book, I now believe it is a great mysterious, if people in the class did not tell me what happened at the end
