Shakepeare

So we've all presumeably read Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth and now Othello. Some of you have probably read other works. So which of Shakepeare's works is your favorite? Your least favorite? The one that strikes you the closest to your core? Please answer and provide reasons why.

I'm not quite sure which is my favorite because, of course, I haven't read Othello, but I think it's safe to say my least favorite is - by a long shot - ROMEO AND JULIET.

Romeo makes me so mad.

Remember how he was love sick at the begining of the play? Telling Benvolia about he was oh so in love with Rosaline?
Must have been quite the crush, seeing how a few hours later he was even more in love with Juliet.

He is a very weak character. He changes the love of his life every couple of hours, and doesn't seem to make much of a point about standing up to his father about the love of his life (Juliet, at the time, in case you were wondering).

Then he flees town after sleeping with her. What a manly way to deal with it.

Having not read too many of shakespears other works im going to have to go with the one i've seen on film. It was made i think be bbc and had some really well known actors in it( keanu reeves, denzel washington and others). The name of the play is Much ado about nothing. Its really a great play, lots of plotting and sabotage plans, but all is well since this is one of shakespears comedies. I guess you could say ive basically read it since the movie was basically the same all the way through as in the play. I'm not really sure which is my least favourite.

I would have to say my favorite that I've read is the tempest, just because it was the easiest for me to visualize as I read it.

I found one main reason that I found it easiest to visualize and really get into was the fact that it was based on the 1609 wreck of the sea venture which was crashed on the reefs of Bermuda. It was easy because at the time of reading I was still living in Bermuda.

So pretty much the reason that my favorite Shakespear play is my favorite is a vain stroke of hometown pride.

I've only ever read the plays that we've studied in school (ie, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, and Othello), but I can't really decide which one I like best.

I like the general plot of Romeo and Juliet, but what crls spncr said about Romeo is ABSOLUTELY TRUE. Some of the other main characters (like Juliet) are slightly annoying, too. But besides the fact that it's also completely overexaggerated, it was more interesting than Macbeth.

Macbeth had a great atmosphere, and I really liked the whole "fate vs. choice" theme. On the other hand, most of the characters were pretty dull. Macbeth was the only interesting one, but that was because he was kind of a protagonist/antagonist anti-hero and also because he was going insane.

I'd like to read The Taming of the Shrew, also. But that's mostly just because I like Ten Things I Hate About You, which is based off of it. Also, I'm a bit interested in Hamlet because The Lion King is loosely based off of it (and who doesn't love that movie?

Also, about Romeo, he IS sixteen, so I guess I forgive him a bit for having ridiculous hormones and bipolar changes between depression and love :P

(Also, I missed a parenthesis at the end my post...)

personally, I enjoy the readings of Romeo and Juliet...not saying anything about the others, but the plot of the story is most intreguing. When Romeo first sees Juliet, he falls in love with her.(forgeting all about Rosileen) They fall in love togeather, but dad doesn't aprove, so they get married in private. But there's the other guy who is supposed to marry Juliet, kinda the Roderigo in Romeo and Juliet. Anywho...so it kinda relates to the everyday situation in which something happenes and someone else doesn't aprove, yet you still do it.

So yah, Romeo and Juliet has always been the story that pulls my heart strings just that little bit.

Not the super sappy part though...not the whole falling in love at first sight. But the fact that I can relate to it.

I have only read the two school books Romeo and Juliet, and Macbeth, and now we are reading Othello. I don't really know how to choose a favourite because I haven't read very many and I don't really like Shakespeare's work. But if I had to I'd say Macbeth because of Mr. Bishop, my last year English teacher. He was so into all the Shakespeare stuff and made the class pretty fun so it wasn't that bad.

My favorite Shakespeare play will have to be Romeo & Juliet! I like it because it's such a tragic love story and because there is lots of drama in it. It was easy for me to visualize what was going on in a scene and understood the story plot. Obviously watching the modern movie of it with Leo DiCap helped me understand it more. I agree to how there are times where the characters sometimes get annoying because they make bad choices, but thats kind of humorous to me! :) Gotta love the cheesiness! I think we've kind of brought this subject up in class where the girls seem to like the fact of being with the "bad boy". I don't know if that fact came from Romeo & Juliet because I can definitely still see the "bad boy" love figure nowadays! I was always, well not alllwayss, interested in learning about Romeo & Juliet because it seems to be quite a popular play and a lot of people know about it. LOVE IT!
