Pi's religions

Does Pi's multi-religion lifestyle appeal to any of you? Are any of you very opposed to it, o the tune of "someone should only worship one god"? Does the idea of many religions seem like it would get a little confusing as it does to me?

The idea of someone being devoted to more then one religion seems a little bit hypocritical to me. To my knowledge every religion demands complete and utter devotion. Some even go as far as to say that the devote of other faiths are infidels, in the case of Muslim extremists. My knowledge on the subject is however limited, due to the fact that i am not religious.

My opinions on the subject are similar to Tyler's. I think it is possible to study and respect many different religions, however believing all of them and practicing them seems hypocritical. I think that if you "just want to love God" like Pi, then you should probably just label yourself as being theist.

i agree fully with tyler. it is totally hypocritical. you'd be constantly contradicting yourself with more than one religion. Christianity and Islam only believe in one God, while Hinduism has many Gods. as much as he tries, I don't think it could really work in real life.

I agree with tyler saying how being devoted to more than one religion is a bit hypocritical. There isn't a way you could actually be fully devoted to all those religions because you practise other ones. I personally have no interest into being devoted into any religion at all. I think Pi's case is sort of unrealistic and rediculous. It's interesting learning about different religions and how they relate and how they don't. But they all can't seem to mend together in the end.

I understand where you're all coming from and I mostly agree with all of you, but really, isnt Pi worshiping the same 'God' or 'thing'? He is worshiping a higher being(s) in all the religions he's into so it kind of works. The only difference is that they have different names and the beliefs that are in each religion are different, but they are all striving for the same thing and they all have the same basic beliefs and rules. For me though, I would never try to live like that, to me it would be very confuseing, just maybe not for him.

I agree with tyler. It is perfectly fine to study more than one religion. To devote yourself to one is a little hyprocritical because don't some religions connect in a way? But then again I don't have a religious background so I don't see why it is such a problem.

I think that religion is complicated enough and there are enough rules to follow with one, let alone with 3. I think that if you believe that one religion is the way to live your life, obviously you're not as devoted to that religion as you should be if you're worshipping 2 others. I don't think Pi knows really what he wants to do. He just seems to find all these appealing so he picks 3.

I don't have really any knowledge of all religions besides the general aspects, but I agree with s.todd. Aren't they all just a belief in a higher being whether it be one or more? And if your devoted enough can't you practise all at the same time? What a better way to "love God" like Pi wanted, than to do it through more than one religion!

On what kristin has said. As we saw in the scene with the three religious men, there is great conflict between religions.Yes they all believe in a higher being, but the differences in the actual beliefs make in highly unlikely that someone could be completely devote to three religions at the same time.
Just being devote in the three religions is contradicting many of the beliefs that appear to be central in these religions.
